Credit Union for Kirkwood
Kirkwood has a way of feeling like its own small town, even though it sits inside Atlanta's city limits. Neighbors walk to coffee and dinner along Hosea L. Williams Drive, kids run the playground at Bessie Branham Park, and on a quiet weekday you can lose the sound of traffic entirely on the trails of the Kirkwood Urban Forest. The Queen Anne and Colonial Revival homes on these tree-lined streets date back to the neighborhood's streetcar days, and the people who live in them today work hard to keep that character intact.
BOND Community Federal Credit Union shares that instinct. We were started by intown Atlanta neighbors, for intown Atlanta neighbors, and we're owned by the very members we serve. Kirkwood is one of the communities we're proud to call home. If you live, work, worship, or volunteer here, you're welcome to join.

Why Kirkwood Neighbors Choose BOND Over Big Banks
BOND exists because banks once refused to invest in in-town Atlanta. In 1972, residents around Little Five Points kept getting turned down for mortgage loans, not because they couldn't pay, but because lenders had written off their neighborhoods. So they built their own institution. A Mennonite church provided a $2,500 founding loan. The first office was a neighbor's kitchen. And to pay members their first year of dividends, the founders sold peaches on Atlanta's streets.
They called it the Bass Organization for Neighborhood Development, and BOND has been serving these neighborhoods ever since.
That story will sound familiar in Kirkwood. This neighborhood started as an independent town, incorporated in 1899, and later went through hard years before residents led its comeback in the 1990s. The Kirkwood Neighbors' Organization, formed in 1993, pushed for the streetscape and zoning changes that helped revive the Hosea Williams business district. Volunteers turned an illegal dumping site into the Kirkwood Urban Forest Preserve and still care for it today. Kirkwood knows what it looks like when neighbors decide to take care of their own.
The difference between a bank and a credit union is simple, really. A bank is built to earn profits for its investors. BOND is a not-for-profit cooperative owned and operated by its members, with a volunteer board elected from the membership. Not for profit, not for charity, but for service: that's the credit union credo, and it's how we run BOND. Earnings go back to members through better rates, lower fees, and services built for this community, and your deposits are federally insured by the NCUA. Learn more in the BOND story.
